Girls Action Foundation offers a number of Montreal-based programs designed to provide fun activities to increase girls’ awareness of, and ability to address issues that impact their lives and communities. During a series of after school media arts workshops, this group of 13 to 15 year old girls from a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-lingual neighborhood in Montreal created a safe(r) space for girls to meet, share their experiences, develop skills and lead a community-based action. This research project took the form of a video in which the group denounced social pressures they have experienced online. The girls built critical thinking and communications skills, self-awareness and self-esteem while deconstructing issues that are barriers to their own well-being.
