Santiago Vargas

My name is Santiago Vargas. I live in London, Ontario, but I was originally born in Colombia. I immigrated to Canada when I was 16 years old and as a “newcomer” I enjoy working and volunteering in my community, especially with youth of different backgrounds and cultures.

When I heard about Voices against Violence I was very excited to finally have the opportunity to discuss different factors that involve violence and the effects that it has on other youth. I was really happy that I could share my experiences and knowledge with other people to address this issue and the topics around it.

I enjoy arts and music; in fact I am a musician. I like playing the guitar, piano, travelling, sports and psychology but my favorite thing is to volunteer in places where people need help the most. Now I’m about to start my post-secondary education in the field of architecture and eventually I’m planning on taking a year off to go volunteer overseas. I think as youth we are responsible for our futures: any action that we take to promote equality, inclusion, respect, health and wellbeing can help us to live in a better society.
