My name is Santiago Vargas. I live in London, Ontario, but I was originally born in Colombia. I immigrated to Canada when I was 16 years old and as a “newcomer” I enjoy working and volunteering in my community, especially with youth of different backgrounds and cultures.
When I heard about Voices against Violence I was very excited to finally have the opportunity to discuss different factors that involve violence and the effects that it has on other youth. I was really happy that I could share my experiences and knowledge with other people to address this issue and the topics around it.
I enjoy arts and music; in fact I am a musician. I like playing the guitar, piano, travelling, sports and psychology ─ but my favorite thing is to volunteer in places where people need help the most. Now I’m about to start my post-secondary education in the field of architecture and eventually I’m planning on taking a year off to go volunteer overseas. I think as youth we are responsible for our futures: any action that we take to promote equality, inclusion, respect, health and wellbeing can help us to live in a better society.
